5 fabulous poppy crafts for Remembrance Day

Five fantastic poppy crafts for kids – a perfect activity for children to join in Remembrance day.

I am proud to wear a poppy at this time of year and while, of course, I plan to observe the 2 minute silence on Remembrance day, I think it will be impossible to get the boys to join me in that just yet.  However, children can show support for the armed forces in other ways, for example by making and wearing their own poppy.

Here are my top 5 easy poppy crafts for kids:

1. Memorial wreath made from paper napkins
Kimberly at Bugaboo, Mini, Mr & Me (+1), made this stunning poppy wreath and shares her full tutorial here.  It requires quite a bit of cutting and ‘accordion’ folding, so plenty of opportunity for practising fine motor skills!
These spring back scissors make cutting easier for young kids.

2. Coffee filter & button poppy tutorial

JDaniel4’s Mom helped him to make this fantastic coffee-filter poppy using a bingo dobber  and you can see their full how-to here.

3. DIY glitter poppy tutorial

Fly Lula (most definitely a girl after my own heart) came up with this fabulous red glitter poppy tutorial after experiencing Strictly Come Dancing sparkly poppy envy!

5. Magnetic (pin-free!) poppies for children

Are your kids too young to wear a poppy with a pin?  Jen at Mama.Papa.Bubba has the answer – magnetic poppies!  Here’s her clever full tutorial, using magnetic badge blanks.

This Sunday, I’ll be wearing my poppy with pride and gratitude and thinking about those who have given their lives in conflicts around the world.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
