How to cross-stitch your family

Would you like to cross-stitch your family?
This project is so simple and fun, plus the finished result is a wonderful family gift, worth framing for keeps (we did)!

I saw this project at Martha Stewart and knew right away that I wanted to do it.  I had to include Nonno Bear too (he IS part of the family after all).  I’m really pleased with how it turned out!

To cross-stitch your family, you will need:

COST: a few quid
AGE: 5+
TIME: over an hour (though you can easily do this in front of the TV!)

How-to cross-stitch your family:

Use the clever templates at marthastewart.com and tweak them to look like your family members on graph paper. There was no design for a teddy, but I couldn’t leave Nonno Bear out of our family – he is very special to Pickle!

Once you’re happy with your design, transfer it to the fabric (one square of graph paper represents one cross stitch).

It really is as easy as that. If you’ve never tried cross-stitch, here’s a how-to do it at iVillage.  I edged my stitches (in the same colour) to neaten the design, then framed and put it up on the wall.
